Many attractions in Pioneer Park are within easy reach within a short walk, including Dixie Rock (also known as Dixie Sugarloaf), St. George Narrows (aka The Crack) and Pioneer Park Arches.
This fun canyon of gaps is a short walk from the parking lot and is worth a stop. The wide side of the slot canyon is near the parking lot, you walk on it and narrow it down to the point where some adults can’t fit into the next one!
Small enough people (especially children!) can go to the other side, but it’s a tight space and not for those who suffer from claustrophobia.

This is the place of St. George to watch the sunset, with views of the city, White Dome, Zion National Park and even Arizona on a clear day. It’s a short walk from the parking lot and easy enough for kids. Although it is important to note that there are no railings at the top, it is worth noting the little ones who like to run.
Just beyond the crack are the two red arches, which are actually visible from the parking lot to the slot cave. They are not marked, so they are easy to miss! You’ll want to park in the first parking lot after you pass Red Hills Desert Park and follow the Pioneer Rim Trail to the left to reach the arches.
While these may not be the most impressive arches in southern Utah, they are definitely worth the short trip and are a lot of fun in St. George.
Opened in 2015, Red Hills Desert Garden is located in Pioneer Park overlooking St. Patrick’s Cathedral. It is Utah’s first wildlife conservation park, showcasing endangered species and promoting water conservation.

The garden is a great place to see a variety of desert plants covering an area of 4.5 hectares. Here you’ll find 5,000 water-saving plants, as well as a 350-foot-long stream home to native and endangered fish, a canyon crevasse replica, and a 200-million-year-old dinosaur track.
Amazingly, the Red Hills Desert Garden uses only five million gallons of water per year. This may seem like a lot, but it’s actually less water than the same size turf!

This spectacular park offers a variety of trails and areas to explore, from towering sandstone cliffs to vast sand dunes, impressive slot canyons, ancient mud tubes and desert landscapes.
There are many things to do in Snow Canyon State Park, including hiking, biking, rock climbing, horseback riding, camping, and photography.

The sandy trail, 0.3 miles from the parking lot, passes through desert vegetation including yucca, sage, and other native plants.
At the end of the trail you can turn left into Jenny Canyon or right to miss it. Although small, the many cracks and crevices make the slot canyon a lot of fun to explore. It also gives you a break from the heat if you’re visiting in the summer!
